The Honda Motor Co. and the State of Ohio announced that Honda would be locating manufacturing operations in the United States - near Marysville, Ohio. Honda was committed to a business model and global strategy that is based on building vehicles close to our customers.

This strategy has worked well in Ohio. No one could have predicted how we would grow. In 1979, the Honda plant in Marysville produced its first motor vehicle - a simple, red CR 250 dirt motorcycle - made by 64 Ohio workers. Today, Honda of America Manufacturing has grown to more than 12,500 associates

at four manufacturing plants and their support facilities. Honda's Ohio operations develop, engineer and produce a wide range of autos, motorcycles, and engines - including, among others, the flagship Accord auto, the Gold Wing motorcycle, and the Element light-duty truck, which is powered by low-emission four- and six-cylinder engines.

However, that is only part of Honda's story in Ohio. If you count other Honda companies in Ohio - Honda Transmission Mfg., Honda R&D - Ohio Center, Honda Trading, and an American Honda service parts and training center, and even a soybean processing plant - Honda's total Ohio employment is nearly 16,000. That's two-thirds of Honda's total U.S. employment.

From the first seed planted here in Ohio, Honda has branched

throughout North America, to other states and to Mexico and Canada. As this expansion took place, our Ohio associates continued to gain experience and knowledge.

Today, that expertise has made Ohio Honda's North American hub for purchasing and product engineering. And Ohio is the North American center for supplier logistics and the export of automotive parts to Honda operations around the world.
