Supplier Efforts

How does a large auto and motorcycle manufacturing company like Honda have an environmental impact beyond its own manufacturing facilities? Honda creates a variety of incentives for its 650 North American suppliers to implement environmentally responsible technologies and practices.

One such supplier incentive was the introduction of the Green Factory Award in 2005. The award, now part of the Corporate Citizenship Award, is presented annually to the supplier that achieves corporate citizenship excellence. The award is based on measurable results within a supplier's facility, or impact to its community, in the areas of Ethics & Compliance, Environmental, Diversity, Government Relations, Community Involvement and Health & Safety.

The commitment of Honda suppliers in these areas is evident since more than 80% of the 650 parts suppliers in North America have achieved ISO 14001 environmental certification for their commitment to manage the impact of their manufacturing operation on the environment.
