Honda is committed to maintaining an effective structure to oversee and manage the company's environmental performance in manufacturing operations throughout North America.
In 1998, Honda's environmental oversight and management structure was implemented with a commitment to achieve and maintain third-party ISO14001 certification. This certification for environmental management confirms that each Honda manufacturing facility has procedures in place to minimize its impact on the environment.
Thirteen of 16 North American Honda plants operating in 2007 were certified to the ISO14001 standard. The new transmission plant in Tallapoosa, Georgia is working toward certification before the end of calendar year 2009. Honda's new auto plant in Indiana and engine plant in Ontario, Canada will start working toward ISO14001 certification when production begins in fall 2008.
